Richard Duane "Rick" Fortney
(October 26, 1956 - December 25, 1992)

STUARTS DRAFT - Richard D. "Rick" Fortney, 36, of Rt. 4, Stuarts Draft, was dead on arrival on Friday morning (Dec. 25, 1992) at Kings' Daughter's Hospital.

He was born on Oct. 26, 1956 at Staunton, a son of Ernest Duane Jr. and Janette Foley Fortney of Stuarts Draft.

He was employed at Shenandoah Distribution Centers.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his widow, Kimberly (Wallace) Fortney; three children, Jaime, Jonathan and Kelsey Fortney, all at home; three sisters, Brenda White of Staunton, Wenda Workman of Stuarts Draft and Beverly Manor of Staunton; maternal grandparents, Howard and Madge Foley of Waynesboro; two nephews and one niece.

A service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Waynesboro chapel of Etter Funeral Home by the Rev. Charles N. Moore.

Pallbearers will be J.R. Workman, Joe Manor, Keith and Kevin Almarode, Allen White, Bob Grubb, Terry Caricofe and Billy Bowers.

Honorary pallbearers will be employees of Shenandoah Distributions Centers.

The family will receive friends from 7-8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home and other times at the residences of his wife and his parents.

NOTE (2025-04-23): On December 25, 1992, the Augusta County Medical Examiner, Dr. Malcolm Tenney, Jr., M.E., determined Rick died instantaneously at "12:50 am" from a "gunshot wound to head and brain." Further, Dr. Tenney concluded the manner of death was "Homicide."
